God’s grace is efficacious bringing about an effect.
This is similar to the statement I was…., (I met Christ) I am… and hope to…. Overcoming a mindset, bias or limited view is like only seeing a cocoon as a brown casing as nothing worthwhile or important and missing the interior work of transformation going on inside it. Some may never recognize the monarch butterfly in its color and flight as the once brown bland cocoon. So much more it is with a human soul. At times we may see some as absent or distant, like in today’s word, yet God is working his plan of salvation. St. Monica knew it is God who is the first mover. St. Augustine once he received God’s truth gave his life to following Christ. Keep showing up and await the effect of grace. In the silence is the mystery of our redeeming savior who sets believers in flight with the wings of faith and reason.
